Cifarelli's Barn Fire
Firefighter - EMT Jim Fredriksson, August 19
These photos tell the story of the Cifarelli Barn Fire which took place on Sunday evening, August 16. The blaze was fought and brought under control by Southold FD and the Cutchogue FD RIT Team was called to the scene for mutual aid. While the fire was spectacular and hot, there were no injuries reported and everyone reported back to HQ unharmed, the best of all possible outcomes.... (Full Story & Photos)

Multi vehicle MVA & fire with victim extrication training

On July 23, Thursday evening, SFD participated in a multi-vehicle MVA with fire and extrication operation at the North Fork Sanitation property in Cutchogue. The training was overseen by instructors from the suffolk County Fire Academy. The drill was handled as a real-time scenario with responders called to the scene by the SFD Dispatcher. Vehicle Extrication

Shortly before Noon on Monday, June 6th, Southold FD was dispatched for an MVA with injuries at the intersection of County Route 448 and Tuckers Lane. Responding units found a Porsche had been struck on the driver's door side by a Ford Bronco resulting in a substantial intrusion into the passenger compartment trapping the driver. Gas Truck Into Hole

On Tuesday, 10/21, Southold was dispatched to "Gas Truck Fell Into A Sink Hole" on Route 48. Sure enough, it had. SFD checked for product leakage and set up protective hose line while waiting for Rapid Recovery response. Excellent hoisting by Rapid Recovery removed truck from sink hole and everyone was on their way. No injuries, no property damage except for the hole in the parking lot. Good job done ... 9/11 Flag Raising

Following tradition, members of the Southold Fire Department solemnly assembled in the early morning hours of September 11 to hoist our largest American Flag in front of Headquarters to honor those lost on 9/11/2001 and in the following years due to illnesses or injuries incurred on that date.
