Southold Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic CO call at 4:46 AM. Upon arrival Chief Rich knocked on the homeowners door a number of times when they finally awoke and let him in. Upon entry Chief Rich found no CO problem and the home owners were unaware of any problems. As he was leaving the residence the lights suddenly went out. The arrival of pumper 842 and the crew check the house for any electrical problems when the members went outside it looked like it was snowing but the stars were out according to Chief Rich. Jim looked toward the LI Sound and could see a fire ball in the sky. Chief and his crew ran thru the woods to find a house fully involved house on the last block over. He went on the air with a 13/35 house fire. 8431 Chief Goldsmith was at the scene assisting in the protection of the neighbors house from catching fire. Trucks 842,844,843,846 & 8416 all resonded to the alarm. No damage to the neighbors house happened as the homes there are very close together. When the neighbor awoke in the AM she was surprised by all the commotion going on outside her home. All went home safe.
