Southold Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic alarm on Willow Pond La. at 10:30 am, upon 2nd. dispatch it was noted that victim and the residence was on fire. When hearing that everyone's heart jump up a notch. Neighbor and EX-CHIEF & EX COMMISSIONER George Berry Sr. was first on scene and tried to gain entry but could not, he then ran back home to get a pry bar and he was able to gained access to the women but the fire had flashed over and he was forced out by the flames and heat.

At that point other members started arriving myself and 2nd. Asst. Chief Craig Goldsmith. Chief Goldsmith and myself carry Scott Pacs in our cars. Chief Goldsmith donned his and Walter Berry donned mine. Chief Goldsmith gained entry to the women and pull the woman to the door but she had already passed. The remaining fire was quickly extinguished.

In the last photo that was the room where the door was shut very important to close doors especially at nite if you have a fire and it flashes over that room remained undamaged thru the intense heat of the flash over.

IF THERE IS ONE BIG LESSON IN THIS HORRIBLE EVENT NO ONE SHOULD EVER TAKE AUTOMATIC ALARMS FOR GRANTED.
